PURPOSE:To obtain a ribbon end detecting apparatus capable of certainly detecting the terminal end of a ribbon, by providing a filter corresponding to the color of the ribbon between the ribbon and an optical sensor. CONSTITUTION:A filter 12 is provided between a ribbon 2 and an optical sensor 7. The filter 12 is different at every color and, when the ribbon 2 is red, set to a kind hard to pass red light. Light emitted from a light emitting element 10 passes the filter 12 and is reflected by the ribbon 2. The light reflected by the ribbon 2 is attenuated in the wavelength component of the color of the ribbon 2 by the passage of light through the filter 12 and incident to the light receiving element 11. By providing the filter 12 as mentioned above, the terminal of a ribbon can be certainly discriminated even if said ribbon is a color one. |
