PURPOSE:To allow communications securely in the mode desired by an operator even when mode-setting is wrong by shifting a mode to the mode in which an operation is executed when the special dial operation is carried out. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 34 investigates whether a minifax mode is selected or not by a minifax button detection circuit 36. If the minifax mode is selected, a phase signal transmitting circuit 30 transmits a phase signal in the minifax mode. In case a 16X dial detection circuit 14 detects that an operator dials ''16X'' even when the minifax mode is not selected, it is recognized that an operator intends communications to a facsimile communication netwok. In this case, a phase signal in the minifax mode is transmitted from the transmitting circuit 30. Thus even if mode-setting is wrong, communications are securely carried out in the mode desired by an operator.
