摘要 PURPOSE:To enable high-luminance chromatic display. by providing first and seccond electrodes so that the first electrodes extend perpendicularly across the second electrodes and face them across a dielectric layer, and by placing a faceplate fitted with a black film and a fluorescent material for the chromatic display, so that the faceplate faces the electrodes across discharge spaces divided from each other by many spacers. CONSTITUTION:Many first electrodes 80 are provided in parallel with each other on a base plate 10. Many second electrodes 90 are provided in parallel with each other so that the second electrodes extend perpendicularly across the first electrodes 80 and face them across a dielectric layer 30. A black film is provided on the non-display portion of the reverse side of a faceplate 70. A fluorescent material 120 for chromatic display is provided on the display portion of the reverse side of the face plate 70 so that the fluorescent material faces the second electrodes 90 across discharge spaces 50 divided from each other by many spacers 110. A rare gas such as Ne-Ar is sealed in the spaces 50. A plane chromatic display device is thus manufactured. A pulse voltage of constant polarity is applied between the first and the second electrodes 80, 90 to maintain discharge to enable the fluorescent material 120 to perform the chromatic display under the action of ultraviolet rays of the discharge. As a result, a memory function is added and a high luminance is achieved.
