MANUFACTURE OF POROUS SINTERED METAL

PURPOSE:To obtain a porous sintered metal having superior vibration absorbing capacity by press-molding metallic staple fibers of a prescribed shape to the desired porosity and sintering the molded body in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A metal (cast iron) is worked by chatter vibration cutting to form metallic staple fibers of 10-100mum diameter and 0.1-10mm. length. The staple fibers are press-molded to the desired porosity, and the molded body is sintered in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. By this method a porous sintered metal absorbing well vibration of 10-10,000Hz is obtd.
