PURPOSE:To prevent any liquid leakage and gas leakage of a fuel cell and cause a matrix to be favorably impregnated with electrolyte by making the levels of the inner and the outer surface areas of a gas-separating plate which are located on both sides of a concave liquid-holding area different. CONSTITUTION:A sealing surface 5 on the N-side of a hydrogen electrode consists of an inner seal surface 51 and an outer seal surface 52 which are located on both sides of a concave liquid-holding area 6 and the level of the surfaces 51 and 52 differ by 0.3-0.4mm.. As a result, when a gas-separating plate 2 and a gas-separating plate 3 to which an air electrode (P) is attached are clamped together with a matrix (M) interposed, clamping force applied to the outer seal surface 52 is greater than that applied to the inner seal surface 51. Accordingly, the liquid leakage and gas leakage resistance of a fuel cell is maintained high. Additionally, no excessive clamping force is applied to the part of the matrix (M) located on the inner seal surface 51, thereby enabling the matrix (X) to be smoothly impregnated with electrolyte supplied from the concave liquid-holding area 6. |
