PURPOSE:To obtain the titled steel having superior corrosion resistance and suitable for use as a material for a food apparatus by adding specified percentages of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Ni, S, P, B, N and Bi to Fe. CONSTITUTION:This free-cutting austenitic stainless steel contg. Bi consists of, by weight, <=0.2% C, <=2.0% Si, <=10.0% Mn, 7.5-30% Cr, <=40.0% Ni, 0.002- 0.40% S, <=0.20% P, 0.0003-0.020% B, <=0.10% N, 0.005-0.50% Bi and the balance Fe with impurities including <=0.005% O. The steel may further contain one or more among <=5.0% Mo, <=4.0% Cu and <=1.50% Al.
