PURPOSE:To produce a stripe plated steel plate for a can while maintaining high productivity by disposing plural pieces of insoluble electrodes spaced from each other in the transverse direction of a steel strip passing through the inside of a plating bath and subjecting the steel strip as a cathode to plating. CONSTITUTION:A steel strip 1 is passed through a plating bath 2 via current conducting rolls 3 and a synchronizing roll 4. Plural pieces of insoluble electrodes 5 spaced from each other are disposed in the transverse direction of the strip 1. The strip 1 as a cathode is subjected to plating so that the strip 1 is plated into a stripe shape in the longitudinal direction thereof with high productivity. A detector 6 for the position of the steel strip utilizing an optical means, etc. is provided to detect the position of the strip 1. The result of the detection is conducted to a controller 7 which instructs a driving device 8, according to said result, to move the electrodes 5 via upper and lower guides 9, 10 by following up to the hunting of the strip 1. The stripe plating is thus applied exactly in the prescribed positions on the strip 1 and the plated steel sheet for a can is efficiently obtd.
