The present invention relates to new alpha -D-arabinohexapyranosides useful in the preparation of nitrosourea derivatives. The products conforming to the invention correspond to the general formula below: <IMAGE> in which: R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms or an aralkyl group, which are optionally substituted, in particular, by one or more halogen atoms or alkoxy groups; R' represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms or an aralkyl group, which are optionally substituted, in particular, by one or more halogen atoms and/or alkoxy groups, or represents an acyl or aroyl group; X' is an azide, primary amine, hydroxy or alkylamine group; Y' is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an aminehydroxy or NHR2 group where R2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl group.
