The present invention relates to a general use peripheral for a personal, family or professional microcomputer. A communication module 3 consisting of subassemblies 4, 5 and 6 establishes the link between the microcomputer 2 and the specific bus 8 of the peripheral. On the bus 8 are connected subassemblies 7 for communication with the surroundings. The subassemblies permit, for example, reading contact states and external voltages, and pulse counting.
