The remote manipulator comprises a rail 930 applied against the perimeter of the bowl 901 and held on the tube plate 904, upon which rail there circulates a self-propelled bogey 931, a base 920 with a clevis free to rotate about a vertical axis, an arm 940 connected to the bogey and sliding in the clevis, a self-propelled tool-carrying carriage 943 serving the tube plate. A supplementary arm 950 which can be inclined on the clevis, whose inclination is controlled by a winch 953 on the beam-arm, with a carriage serving the bowl and the partition plate 930. It can be used for all types of checking, maintenance and repair intervention in steam generator water boxes. <IMAGE>
