This bar is of the type composed of a bar 4 and of two raising crooks 5 each comprising means for fastening on the roof, means comprising an inter-bearing lever 6 whose bearing point on the crook 5 is adjustable and whose upper end interacts with a clamping screw 7 bearing on the crook 5. The lever 6 of the fastening means of each crook 5 is equipped with a hook-shaped end 8 and interacts with a shoe 9 articulated at 24 to the base of the crook 5 and capable of occupying a position in which it rests on the roof, and a position tipped outwards, in which its free end 25 is able to bear on the gutter 35 of the vehicle and to constitute a jaw complementary to the other jaw formed by the lower end of the lever 6, whilst these fastening means are associated with means 28-29-30 for preclamping and adjusting the length of the bar mounted slidably in the crooks. <IMAGE>
