The invention relates to the positioning of, in particular, rolled lengths or part-lengths of rolled bar stock and rolling temperature on delivery roller tables for lateral delivery to cross transfer devices, for example cooling beds, with intermittent or continuous cross transfer of the part-lengths, the part-lengths being stopped with their head end in a preselected position on the delivery roller table and then transferred to the rows of supporting or carrying elements of the cross transfer device. In this arrangement, the part-lengths (W) are, according to Fig. 2, each stopped in one position on the delivery line (1) and transferred to the cross transfer device (3a), in which the overhanging length (x) of the head and/or tail ends is in each case no more than half the pitch of the supporting or carrying elements (B) in the longitudinal direction of the cross transfer device (3a). <IMAGE>
