In a clamping device for the clamping of, especially, dental tools, consisting of a receiving sleeve (4) which is rotatable by means of a rotary drive and is mounted in a handpiece (3) and which has slots (8) which start at least from its end (5) directed into the handpiece and between which are formed resilient clamping tongues (7) clamping the shank (6) of the tool (1) in the clamping position of the receiving sleeve, the handpiece having spreading elements (9) which set the clamping tongues radially outwards, for the purpose of assuming the release position of the receiving sleeve, and which can be actuated from outside, the outlay in terms of the travel and force for actuating the spreading elements for the purpose of assuming the release position of the clamping tongues is to be kept low, and therefore the spreading elements (9) are in engagement with the clamping tongues, even in the clamping position, thereby generating a presetting of the clamping tongues (7). <IMAGE>
