The invention relates to a process for purifying preferably hydrogen halide-containing and/or acidic gaseous sulphur compound-containing pyrolysis gases by simultaneous neutralisation and dust removal, in which the gas entraining large amounts of dusty solid particles is conducted through a packed bed to bind the gaseous pollutants, and an apparatus for carrying out this process. The problem of agglomeration and blockage of the packed bed is solved by setting the grains of the packed bed into a pulse-like motion, as a result of which they are subjected to a minimal wear by mechanical abrasion, the blockage of the packed bed filter is avoided and the purification of the gas is improved. <IMAGE>
