Device for cutting bolts, round bars or the like consisting of steel, especially a bolt cutter, having a pair of pivoting levers which are each mounted independently pivotably on a pair of plates and which form the cutting jaws on the load-arm side and can be actuated on the force-arm side via handling levers connected to one another in an articulated manner, the cutting jaws having notching knives, the wedge-shaped cutting edges of which can be guided relative to one another in one plane during the intended use of the device and which are located approximately opposite one another in the end position, in which stops provided on the handling levers butt against one another, while in the end position, in which stops provided on the handling levers are located opposite one another, the distance between the wedge-shaped cutting edges and the free ends of the notching knives increases towards the ends of the notching knives facing the handling levers.
