An aluminium housing 10 contains a grinding wheel and an upper roller for an abrasive belt. An iron clamping and adjusting mechanism 14 projects into the housing 10 and is connected to the upper roller at its end which is taken outside the housing 10. In order to avoid the formation of sparks, the clamping and adjusting mechanism 14 is covered towards the inside of the housing 10 by a protective aluminium hood 82. The protective hood 82 and a slide 100 are guided displaceably on the housing 10 and can be adjusted by means of the upper roller. <IMAGE>
