In a hot gas engine, in which a regenerator (6) encloses each cylinder head, a part of the upper cylinder wall and of the generator (6) is designed as one unit with low thermal conductivity in an axial and a radial direction. The arrangement comprises two wall elements (3, 4) connected to one another, between which a space (5) of annular cross-section is formed.
