In order to provide a torsion-free harp, a symmetrical gate mechanism is selected instead of the conventional asymmetrical fork arrangement, in which mechanism in each case 1/18 of the length of a harp string is clamped or released by two gate strips, formed by transverse webs and extending counter to each other, in order to achieve a raising or lowering by a semitone by means of pedal actuation. <IMAGE>
