The invention relates to the production of aqueous ammonia: liquid ammonia, without being evaporated, is mixed directly with water. In this process the pressure in the mixing system must be distinctly above both the saturation vapour pressure of the ammonia at its storage temperature and the saturation vapour pressure of the ammonia at the temperature of the absorbing water. The system pressure must be greater than the defining pressure and expediently is from 0.001 to 10 bar, preferably from 0.5 to 3.0 bar.
