In a device for the disinfection of a treatment liquid, especially one containing water, for human or animal bodies, for example as cooling or rinsing liquid for operation areas, especially for a dental treatment unit, it is intended to provide automatic operation of the device and a metering facility, and for this reason the device comprises a storage tank, a supply line for a liquid disinfectant as additive, which supply line can be connected to the container containing the treatment liquid, and a metering device for the additive which is controlled as a function of the quantity of treatment liquid to be supplied.
