There is a forging machine having two rams (2) which act horizontally in opposite directions, each carry one tool (20) and are each carried by a driving device which is mounted on a frame (1), a workpiece holding device (16) being provided between the two tools. The aim is, by simple means, to avoid displacement of the workpiece held by the holding device due to a lack of synchronism of the rams or to a fluctuation in the impact plane of the tools. This is achieved by using as the driving device for the two rams (2) two screws (5, 6) with opposite threads each acting by a threaded nut (4) on the two rams and acted upon at one end by a rotary drive (11). While having a very simple construction, this screw-press forging machine has a very high degree of synchronism, something which is important when carrying out forging with a horizontal design and a workpiece held between the tools. <IMAGE>
