NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 and R2 are alkyl, alkoxyl or halogen; R3 and R4 are H or alkyl; R5 is H, alkyl methylol, etc.; X is halogen; Y is H, halogen or alkyl, except when R1 and R2 are methyl, ethyl or halogen; R3 is H; R4 and R5 are H or methyl; X is Cl; Y is H or Cl). EXAMPLE:N-( 2', 2'-Dibromo-3', 3'-dimethylcyclopropylmethxy )-chloro-2, 6-diethylacetanilide. USE:A herbicide, having high selectivity and a remarkably large width period suitable for treatment as compared with that of the conventional herbicides, and applicable very safely to directly sowed paddy rice under flooded conditions. PREPARATION:An N-halomethyl-chloroacetanilide expressed by formula II (A is halogen) is reacted with an alcohol expressed by formula III in the presence of a hydrogen halide capturing agent to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I .
