PURPOSE:To improve the cavitation erosion resistance by using a Cr-Ni stainless steel contg. a prescribed amount of Mn and having a structure contg. an epsilon-phase or an austenite phase and not contg. a ferrite phase as the material of the surface layer of a part which is liable to wear by cavitation erosion. CONSTITUTION:The surface layer of a part which is liable to wear by cavitation erosion is made of a stainless steel having a composition consisting of, by weight, <0.2% C, 0.02-0.3% N, 0.2-1% Si, 11-15% Cr, 0.5-10% Ni, 4-15% Mn, <2% Mo, 0.01-0.1% Nb and/or 0.5-5% Co and the balance Fe. The steel has a structure contg. an epsilon-phase or an austenite phase and not contg. a ferrite phase.
