PURPOSE:To form an image having high quality with simple constitution in a non-contact transfer type developing method of an electrostatic laten image by selecting the charge density per unit volume of a toner in a way as to satisfy prescribed conditions. CONSTITUTION:The thickness df of a toner layer on a toner support 3 having a function relation with the DC bias current VD to be impressed, the potential Vmax in the image part of a charge holding body 2 and the potential Vmin in the non- image part are determined. The charge density sigma per unit volume of the toner is so selected as to satisfy the conditions expressed by the equation. If the adequate density sigma is selected in such a way, the image having high quality without a photographic fog, etc. is formed by the simple constitution consisting merely in impressing the DC bias. |
