PURPOSE:To obtain a novolak-type phenolic foam composite having a uniform cell density, by mixing partially foamed and hardened, secondarily foamable novolak-type phenolic resin foam particles with a particulate aggregate to put into a mold. CONSTITUTION:A composition comprising a precondensate of a novolak-type phenolic resin, and required amounts of a decomposable foaming agent and a curing agent is partially foamed and hardened to give secondarily foamable novolak-type phenolic resin foam particles. Then, the foam particles are mixed with a particulate aggregate, and the obtained mixture is molded in a mold to obtain a novolak-type phenolic foam composite. Before partially foamed and hardened, the aforementioned composition is preferably granulated in general. A particulate aggregate to be used includes an organic material, an inorganic material and their mixture. Examples of the inorganic material include perlite and foam glass particles, and those of the organic material include a resol-type phenolic foam particles and polypropylene foam particles.
