PURPOSE:To obtain a plastic lens which has a high refractive index, is particularly easily workable, is dyeable and has excellent physical and chemical characteristics by copolymerizing a mixture composed of 3 kinds of specific monomers in the presence of a radical poln. initiator. CONSTITUTION:A liquid mixture prepd. by mixing a monomer of diallyl phthalate, diallyl isophthalate or diallyl terephthalate expressed by the formula I , or its deriv., an allyl benzoate monomer expressed by the formula II, or its deriv., and a polymerization initiator; and a styrene monomer expressed by the formula III or its deriv. is cast into a casting mold assembled of a glass mold and a resin gasket and is cured by heating or using a means for irradiating UV rays, etc. While the adequate amt. of the 1st monomer to be used in this case is 50- 90wt%, the adequate amt. of the 2nd monomer to be used is 5-20wt%. However, the rate of polymn. is uncontrollable with these two components alone and formability is of a problem and therefore the 3rd monomer is incorporated at 5-20wt% with said mixture by which the rate of polymn. is adequately controlled and the high refractive index plastic lens having easy formability is obtd. |
