PURPOSE:To obtain a piston ring for use in a reciprocating engine, which has a high resistance to abnormal wear and breakage, by making the piston by use of a pearlite material in which graphite has a pseudo-spherulitic structure and the base structure has an area rate higher than a particular percentage. CONSTITUTION:A piston 2 for use in a reciprocating internal combustion engine is fitted in a cylinder liner 1, and a piston rod 6 is connected to the lower end of the piston 2. Further, a plurality of piston rings 3-5 are fitted in respective piston-ring grooves formed in the outer peripheral surface of the piston 2. Here, the pistons 3-5 are made of a pearlite material in which graphite a so-called pseudo-spherulitic structure, i.e., a medium structure between a flaky structure and a spherulitic structure and the base structure has an area rate of 95% or higher than that. By using the above-mentioned material, it is enabled to obtain a piston ring which can be used with high reliability when the conditions of use is severe and problems of abnormal wear or breakage are considered to be liable to occur. |
