PURPOSE:To increase the rigidity of upper arm as well as reduce the side width by bending the side edge of the upper arm of a spring at a right angle to the residual portion of the upper arm along the fold extending in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:A spring 50 is used to physically energize the pivot of the end- pivot type locker arm of an internal combustion engine moving valve system toward the pivot, consisting of an upper arm 52 with end portion to be coupled with the locker arm, a lower arm 54 to be coupled with a pivot receiver, and an intermediate portion 56 connecting said arms. Each of side edges 58A and 58B of the upper arm 52 is bent at right angle along folds 60A and 60B in the longitudinal direction to form vertical edges 58A and 58B. The presence of the vertical edges 58A and 58B strengthens the rigidity of the upper arm 52 and also increase its intrinsic (or natural) frequency, resulting in the positioning of the resonance point of the upper arm 52 in the outside of the engine-using rotation region. The breakage of the upper arm can be prevented.
