PURPOSE:To narrow substantially a range of a parameter to be considered at the time of calculating matching of an existing pattern and to allow discrimination of a picture at a high speed by utilizing a two-dimensional cepstrum obtained by optical Fourier-transformation at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:A cepstrum operator 1 consists of a light beam 11 to make parallel light beams, the 1st convex lens 21 provided a focusing distance f1 away from its light source 11, the 2nd convex lens 13 provided a focusing distance f2 away from a picture 10 so that the said picture will be Fourier-transformed, a light intensity convector 14, the 3rd convex lens 15 to Fourier-convert an output of a convertor and a two-dimensional light detector 16 provided a focusing distance f3 away from the lens 15. An output of a light-receiving device 16 is supplied to a peak detector 2, which detects a peak of a high frequency part of a two-dimensional cepstrum. Then a peak matching part 3 takes matching the peak with that of the low frequency part of the cepstrum with an existing pattern stored in an existing pattern cepstrum memory device 5, extracts a candidate pattern, and outputs a rotational parameter and enlargement/reduction parameters.
