PURPOSE:To easily switch inputs between input with character codes and input with item coordinates, by providing an item input converting device at the outside independently of an input displaying terminal device. CONSTITUTION:When item keys of an item inputting keyboard 1 are depressed, coordinates corresponding to each item key are sent to an item input converting device 6. The device 6 converts coordinates inputted from the keyboard 1 into character code strings corresponding to items and sends the character code strings to a character input displaying terminal device 2b. The character code strings are sent to a terminal controller 5 through the character inout displaying terminal device 2b and the terminal device 2b displays the character code strings on a character display. Moreovaer, when the item input converting device 6 and item inputting keyboard 1 are removed and a character board 7 is connected with the present character input displaying terminal device 2b, inputs can be made with character codes.
