PURPOSE:To obtain a pullulan copolymer suitable as a biocompatible material such as dental material, contact lens, etc., by copolymerizing a specific pullulan ester with a polymerizable olefin compound capable of forming a specific recurring unit by polymerization. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer is produced by copolymerizing (A) a pullulan ester of formula I [X is -COR<1> (R<1> is 2-16C unsaturated hydrocarbon group); Y is -COR<2> (R<2> is 1-14C alkyl); m is natural number of >=5] with (B) a polymerizable olefin compound capable of forming the recurring unit of formula II [R<3>, R<4> and R<5> are H or CH3, R<6> is -COOR<7> (R<7> is 1-12C alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc.), -COCN, OH, phenyl, etc.; n is natural number of 20-300,000] by polymerization.
