PURPOSE:To obtain the titled heat-resistant copolymer, by suspension polymerizing alpha-methylstyrene, an N-substituted maleimide based monomer, a vinyl cyanide based monomer and an aromatic vinyl based monomer other than the alpha-methylstyrene under specific conditions in many stages. CONSTITUTION:A monomeric charging composition consisting of (A) 30-80wt% alpha-methylstyrene, (B) 10-50wt% of N-substituted maleimide based monomer, (C) 5-40wtT vinyl cyanide based monomer and (D) 3-60wt% aromatic vinyl based monomer other than the alpha-methylstyrene is suspension polymerized. I the process, the monomeric mixture consisting of the total amount of the components (A), (B) and (C) or the total amount of the components (A), (B) and (C) and part of the component (D) is charged into a suspension polymerization system, and polymerization is started to add the total amount or part of the component (D) continuously and/or intermittently to the system successively in the course to complete the polymerization to give the aimed copolymer.
