PURPOSE:To make it possible to beautifully finish a coating end with high accuracy, by utilizing masking in multi-color coating for applying a pearl paint to two color paints having different color tones. CONSTITUTION:An iron plate 1 being a base material is pretreated and, after an electrodeposition film 2 is formed to the pretreated iron plate 1, under coating or intermediate coating is applied thereto. A first color paint 3 is applied to the surface of the obtained object W to be coated so as to coat one side S1 with respect to a determined change-over line L. In the next step, the part, corresponding to one side S1 from the change-over line L, of the first color paint film 3a is masked by using a masking jig 6 and, thereafter, a second paint 7 having a color different from that of the first paint is applied to the surface of the other side S2. After coating, the masking jig 6 is detached and a pearl paint 8 is applied to the whole of the first and second color films 3a, 7a while a clear paint 9 is further applied thereon and, finally, baking and drying are performed.
