PROCESS FOR THE POLYMERIZATION OF 2-PYRROLIDONE

1514385 Anionic polymerization of pyrrolidone A C BARNES and C E BARNES 9 Sept 1976 [15 Sept 1975] 37433/76 Heading C3R Pure or acceptably white melt spinnable polypyrrolidone is obtained by anionic polymerization at between 30‹ and 45‹ C. using SO2 as activator at a concentration related to the temperature and below the relevant limits shown in the Fig. The SO2 is desirably diluted with an inert gas for better control of such low concentrations and the temperature held constant throughout the process.
