PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent desensitizing effect and an excellent capability of removing contaminants, by incorporating in a cleaning agent a silicate and a surface active agent selected from the group consisting of cationic surface active agents and amphoteric surface active agents. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing a silicate and at least one surface active agent selected from the group consisting of cationic surface active agents and amphoteric surface active agents is used as a plate surface cleaning agent for a planographic plate. The silicate is used in an amount of 0.5-20wt% to the total weight of the cleaning agent, preferably, 2-10wt%. The cationic or amphoteric surface active agent prevents degradation of ink-coatability from occurring due to swelling of a part of image areas or the like, thereby improving the adhesion of the ink and displaying an excellent effect on prevention of degradation in the durability in printing.
