摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the device in its suction air charging efficiency, by forming the extended portion of suction passage around the peripheral wall of surge tank and providing a partitioning pivotable member inside the tank, the extended portion having a varying cross-section along its longitudinal direction and the pivotable member varying a communicating position between the surge tank space and the extended portion. CONSTITUTION:Branch pipes 7... are ramified from the upper portion of surge tank 3 forming a suction device for connection with the suction ports of respective air cylinders 9. The upstream end A of connecting passage inside respective branch pipes 7 and then extended portions 13... of suction passage are formed around the peripheral wall of casing 11 forming the surge tank 3. These extended portions 13... are compartmentalized by means of partition wall 14 upstandingly provided on the inner peripheral surface of casing 11 to provide a coiling configuration along the peripheral wall of casing 11. A partitioning pivotable member 15 is contained in the central portion of casing 11 for partitioning respective extended portions 13 from its internal space. The member 15 is caused to pivot in response to the operating condition of engine, and thereby varying the length and cross-sectional area of suction passage at the downstream of space of surge tank 3.
