The unit is intended for converting a constant linearly adjustable forge (G) into a progressively increasing force (P) and comprises a cable passing over at least one pulley (1) rotatable about a fixed point. The force (G) acts on both ends of the cable (4') with one end e.g. being fixed. The increasing force (P) acts on a pulley (2) resting on the tensioned cable portion. A progressively increasing force (P) is required to increase the length of the cable loop, the pulley (2) preferably being guided rectilinearly. The distance of the cable ends is pref. adjustable to vary the rate of progression. The loop may be arranged between two fixed pulleys (1) in which case no guidance is required.
