PURPOSE:To orient all columnar magnetic particles in the vertical direction against a tape base surface by sticking metalic atoms scattering from a target positioned in the center part of circular arc of a guide means, while a tape base is guided by the guide means in a circular arc shape to run. CONSTITUTION:The center O2 of a guide plate 16 having a circular arc shape of a radius R coincides with the center O2 of a target 21 placed and fixed on a target holder 14, and a tape base 22 is guided by the outside circumferential surface of the guide plate 16, crosses successively plural rectangular spatter windows 23a-23h provided along the circumferential surface and runs at a prescribed speed in the direction as indicated with an arrow D. In this case, a Co atom and a Cr atom scattered from the target 21 pass through each spatter window 23a-23h and are stuck to the surface of the tape base 22, laminated successively, a magnetic film of a prescribed thickness which is a collection of columnar magnetic particles of Co-Cr is formed to be a magnetic tape 29 and is wound to a reel 26.
