<p>A description is given of a device for cardiopulmonary resuscitation or recovery. The device comprises a housing which, in use, is fixed to the thorax of a patient, the housing and the fastening means providing a non-elastic hoop for the patient's thorax. Pneumatically actuated pressure means project from the housing in order to rest on the patient's sternum, and a suitable valve system is contained in the housing for applying cyclical displacements of the pressure means.
