N-Substituted N-acetyl-2,6-dialkylanilines of the formula <IMAGE> in which R1 and R2 each denote methyl or ethyl, A denotes a 1,2-ethylene group which is optionally substituted by one or two methyl groups, a 2-oxo-1,2-ethylene group or a 1-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-ethylene group, R3 is an alkyl group, and X is chlorine or an alkoxy group, are prepared by reacting N-substituted 2,6-dialkylanilines of the formula <IMAGE> in which R1, R2, R3 and A have the abovementioned meanings, with an acetyl chloride of the formula X-CH2-CO-Cl in which X has the abovementioned meaning, while using an excess of the acetyl chloride of the formula III as solvent and removing the excess by distillation. The compounds I are prepared simply and in very good yield and at high purity, without harmful substances being released into the environment to any appreciable degree. The compounds I can be used for protecting plants against attack by phytopathogenic microorganisms. |
