PURPOSE:To obtain a film- or tape-shaped photomagnetic recording medium with high productivity by providing a recording film of a thin rare earth-transition metal amorphous magnetic alloy film having an axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the film plane on a flexible substrate of a polyester film or the like. CONSTITUTION:An arc-melted alloy of a rare earth-transition metal such as Gd- Co, Tb-Fe, Gd-Tb-Fe as a vapor deposition source is deposited by evaporation under a vacuum on a flexible substrate of polyimide, polyester, etc. while said substrate is conveyed along a cooling can, thus forming a thin amorphous recording film layer having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the substrate surface on said surface. The manufacture of the photomagneic recording medium usable in the form of a film or tape is thus made possible with the higher productivity than in the prior art in which the thin magnetic film is formed on each sheet of hard substrates of glass, etc. If the substrate having >=70 deg.C glass transition temp. is used, the recording medium having much better surface characteristic is obtd. The hard photomagnetic recording disc may be obtd. by cutting out the substrate into a disc shape and sticking the above-mentioned film between two sheets of the hard discs. |
