PURPOSE:Coated optical fibers obtained by coating the outer periphery of quartz based optical glass fibers with a resin composition containing a hydrogenation catalyst, and capable of reducing the volume of evolved hydrogen, and suppressing the increase in transmission loss with time. CONSTITUTION:A resin composition consisting essentially of urethane acrylate, epoxy acrylate, butadiene acrylate or silicon (acrylate), etc. is incorporated with 0.01-10wt% hydrogenation catalyst, (e.g. Ni), to give a resin composition for coating optical fibers. The outer periphery of quartz based opticsl glass fibers is then coated with the above-mentioned composition.
