The apparatus of the invention contains a by-pass system in which the return of dust is formed by a conveyor duct which is provided with a conveyor member, is separate from the by-pass duct and, with respect to the connection of the by-pass duct, opens into the kiln inlet housing at a place nearer to the rotary kiln. An apparatus of this kind is particularly distinguished by a low constructional height and by the systematic adjustability of the effectiveness of the by-pass system.
