PURPOSE:To make unnecessary a positioning device of high accuracy and to enable inexpensive and high-speed marking by a method wherein laser brams are split and desired laser beams are selected therefrom and applied in dots to a workpiece for marking. CONSTITUTION:A group of five laser beams oscillated from a group I of laser oscillating systems are split into twenty five beams by a group II of splitting systems in five sets fitted in a horizontal member 21a of a frame 21, and simultaneously they are refracted downward and introduced into a group III of condensing systems. While twenty five laser beams in a group introduced into this group III of the condensing systems are intercepted by twenty five shutters in a group 9A respectively, desired shutters only are opened to let the brams be introduced further into condenser lens provided opposite to the shutters, and the beams condensed thereby are applied to a workpiece W. On the occasion of this application, an oxygen gas is jetted at high speed from a jetting port 25. Consequently the workpiece W is melted only in the portions on which the beams are applied, and the melted portions are scattered by the oxygen gas. A part which can be discriminated from the other, that is, a desired character, numeral or mark, is formed in dots in this way, and this marking can be executed. |
