An auxiliary device serves to achieve optimum travel values in utility vehicles, in particular in agricultural tractors, which interact with implements. The auxiliary device has a display device which is driven via a microcomputer by in each case one sensor for engine speed, additional loading and speed of rotation at the transmission output. The display device indicates the respective direction of gear change in the gearbox in relation to an optimum travel value. In order to take account of the particular conditions in an agricultural tractor or the like and to permit the driver quickly to obtain optimum travel values using simple measures, the microcomputer (5) is assigned a memory (7) which can be preset to a set value region of engine speed and engine power which can be selected as a function of at least two optimum travel values.
