<p>Prodn. of glycoproteins (I) is effected by covalently coupling natural or synthetic proteins with carbohydrates produced by partial hydrolysis of natural polysaccharides. Coupling is effected by (a) reacting the carbohydrate with OH, NH2, SH or COOH gps. in the protein in the presence of an enzyme, esp. a glycosyl transferase, (b) activating the carbohydrate as a phosphate deriv. or by reaction with a nucleotide and then reacting with the protein, (c) reacting the carbohydrate with the protein to form azomethine linkages, opt. followed by (electro)chemical redn., (d) activating the carbohydrate with a carbodiimide or CNBr and reacting with the protein, or (e) reacting the carbohydrate with the protein in the presence of a bifunctional coupler.</p> |
