The device is of the type which comprises a casing which is loaded with disinfectant and then immersed in water to be treated. the casing has perforations to allow water to circulate through the case and progressively dissolve the disinfectant. The casing is made now in two sections of which one section has a cavity for loading with disinfectant. This cavity enclosure can be readily provided with perforations to allow water to circulate in contact with the disinfectant. - The second section of the casing comprises a float of which the buoyancy is insufficient to prevent the casing from sinking in water when the first section cavity is fully charged with disinfectant. The buoyancy of the float will however, bring the casing to the surface when a predetermine wt. of disinfectant has been dissolved from the cavity. - Pref. the buoyancy float section employs an air chamber as a float. The casing is made of thermally weldable plastic. The disinfectant cavity enclosure has external lugs. etc. which can easily be cut off to allow water to reach the disinfectant.
