The smelt (3) flows via a nozzle (4), located in a nozzle plate (6) closing off the outflow connection piece (5) of the smelt vessel (2), into an annular mould (7). The hardening section is drawn off continuously from the latter. In the connecting region between the mould (7) and the nozzle plate (6) extends an intermediate ring (13), and there are provided on the abutting face between the intermediate ring (13) and the mould (7) lubricating grooves (18) which extend in planes containing the axis of the intermediate ring and which open into the moulding space of the mould. The intermediate ring (13) forms, in the region of the lubricating grooves (18), a shell surface (14) which opens conically outwards from its orifice and on which rests a complementary outer shell region (15) of the mould (7), in such a way that the lubricating grooves (18) open into the cavity between the mould (7), the intermediate ring (13), the nozzle plate (6) and the meniscus curve (16) of the smelt flowing into the mould (7). <IMAGE>
