A composition which prevents the periodontal diseases gingivitis, periodontitis and alveolar pyorrhoea through the prevention of the colonization of Bacteroides gingivalis comprises an antibody obtained by immunizing a mammal with an antigen selected from Bacteroides gingivalis, its pilus and capsule fractions. Compositions can be formulated as toothpastes, toothcreams, mouthwashes or in food products etc.
