943,286. Cleaning printing press cylinders. E. GERICKE. March 3, 1961 [March 3, 1960], No. 7796/61. Heading B6C. The blanket cylinder 2 of a rotary offset machine may be cleaned by a pivotally mounted arrangement comprising a wick 10 and a wiper 11 having a resilient base 12 and a readily interchangeable cloth overlay 13. The wick extends into a chamber 9 of a two-chambered vessel 6 the other chamber of which contains a cleaning liquid 7 such as benzine. The chambers are interconnected by an orifice which is formed in the separating wall 8 remote from the opening through which the wick extends into the chamber 9. The vessel 6 with the wick 10, the wiper 11 and an operating handle are mounted on a shaft 5 and the arrangement is rotatable by the handle into three positions. In position " F " the wick is in contact with the blanket applying cleaning liquid thereto and in position " W " the wick is spaced from the blanket whilst the wiper assembly 11, 12, 13 is in contact therewith removing the used liquid therefrom. In the position " R " both the wick and the wiper are non-operative relative to the blanket surface but in this position, as in the position " W," the wick is soaking in the liquid which has entered the chamber 9 through the orifice in the wall 8. The amount of liquid absorbed by the wick for each cleaning operation is determined by the distance of the upper edge of the orifice in wall 8 from the opening through which the wick extends into chamber 9. |
